As the earth reels from the effects of global warming, scientists are scrambling with ways to completely shift from fossil fuel to a more sustainable and earth friendly alternative. So here are the reasons as to why Solar is the best alternative to man’s seemingly inexhaustible demands for more energy.
1. Reliability – The sun has been around for millions of years and scientists believe that it will still be there for millions more. The sun has long been venerated by ancient civilizations because of its life giving properties. Remember the saying ‘as sure as day’? Well, as the sun rising each day seems to be a good enough guarantee that the sun will be there tomorrow.
For the last three years, several counties in California have been putting up with the tremendous effects of drought and farmers are in the verge of giving up altogether. In fall of 2006, there was a noted below average amount of rain or precipitation in the area according to authorities, but they were far from dreaming that a drought like that would last this long and it seems that the drought is far from over.
At first it was only the farmers who worried about their irrigation system and water supply for their crops. All hopes were gone when the drought brought about continuing water shortage, enough to alert even California’s locals to fear for the day when there would be no more water to drink and sustain human existence. Of course, the hardest hit must be endured by California farmers whose main source of income is largely dependent on water. Indeed, local economies are hurt by drought and the situation is expected to worsen if the climate won’t change even for a bit. Agriculture-based businesses are now cutting back on manpower, if not shutting down, causing the employment rate to decrease dramatically in drought-stricken areas.
Due to the overwhelming changes in our climate today, it is but normal for experts to seek the root cause of this problem—even their potential ones. In this case, deforestation stands as the apparent cause, not a potential one, of climate change. Since areas upon areas of forestland are fast diminishing these days, freaky weather changes are expected to get worse than ever.
Experts believed that if the government is deadest in fighting climate change, they should have a good look into deforestation concerns since it is the number one contributing factor to the problem at hand. There is an estimated 20% greenhouse gas emission as far as deforestation is concerned and the alarming rate which deforestation is now assuming are sure to cause catastrophic results soon.
During the last week of August, numerous reports of drought in various parts of the world were reported. One of these unfortunate reports was in China wherein an estimated five million people are now experiencing severe drought which leaves their farms in serious condition. Unnatural drought like this can affect their crops and livestock—to much horror of Northern China’s local farmers and residents.
In this part of China where residents rely only on their produce for food and sustenance, having severe drought killing their crops is synonymous to hunger. When crops die, these farmers will have to find other ways to buy food and other living necessities. Wheat, which covers most farming lands are now in dire need of water as its soil is beginning to parch and wells are now rock dry.
Due to the very persistent and notable tick infestations all throughout America and other countries worldwide, experts are now gathering all related data over the past few years to determine the most effective way to fight this potentially life-threatening situation, and hopefully put a stop to it before it gets blown out of proportion. Apparently, the single most unrelenting cause these experts have unearthed so far is global warming which was what experts have been suspecting all along.
There has been a suspected link between ticks and climate change although it cannot be pinpointed and established yet. Experts say that it may even be the collective effects of global warming and climate change that make tick infestation as nasty as ever, putting every human and their pets at a greater risk. According to studies, ticks are known to alter its usual behavior when they experience too much heat. One study which was done sometime December of last year showed that when ticks are subjected to extreme heat, it frantically turns to humans instead of their usual hosts such as deer and dogs. Furthermore, it was found out that due to longer periods of heat and shorter winter time we are experiencing nowadays, it gave more time for ticks to multiply and spread. Another suspected link is that when trees are cut down, it gives ticks more room to grow and their hosts are now within reach.
