You may have seen dramatic pictures and footage of birds and sea animals covered in black oil. These poor creatures have been affected by oil spills. There is a lot more than that on what an oil spill can bring. When there is an oil spill, the oil can go anywhere because of the tides and wind that leads to harmful effects to the ecosystem.
Oil spill happens when there is an accidental release of petroleum into the environment. It can be eliminated easily when it strikes on land. But on water, it appears to be the opposite that it can result to oil pollution over the wide areas and can give serious danger to the ecosystem.
It has been months since that very unfortunate day Haiti was shaken by a magnitude 7 earthquake. Up to this day, relief efforts are still seen and heard on news and help from the world over keeps on pouring in. Aside from that, volunteers are working round the clock to restore civil order in Haiti as locals are worried about what’s in store for them in the future now that their country has crumbled to the forces of mother nature.
The impending environmental impact of such natural disasters can be felt instantly while others just lie in wait until it blows up into yet another catastrophic tragedy. One of the most expected environmental effects when a natural disaster strikes is water-borne illnesses as chemicals are to be anticipated to pollute clean waters, not to mention oil spills which fortunately was not detected in the streets of Haiti.
Due to the overwhelming changes in our climate today, it is but normal for experts to seek the root cause of this problem—even their potential ones. In this case, deforestation stands as the apparent cause, not a potential one, of climate change. Since areas upon areas of forestland are fast diminishing these days, freaky weather changes are expected to get worse than ever.
Experts believed that if the government is deadest in fighting climate change, they should have a good look into deforestation concerns since it is the number one contributing factor to the problem at hand. There is an estimated 20% greenhouse gas emission as far as deforestation is concerned and the alarming rate which deforestation is now assuming are sure to cause catastrophic results soon.
During the last week of August, numerous reports of drought in various parts of the world were reported. One of these unfortunate reports was in China wherein an estimated five million people are now experiencing severe drought which leaves their farms in serious condition. Unnatural drought like this can affect their crops and livestock—to much horror of Northern China’s local farmers and residents.
In this part of China where residents rely only on their produce for food and sustenance, having severe drought killing their crops is synonymous to hunger. When crops die, these farmers will have to find other ways to buy food and other living necessities. Wheat, which covers most farming lands are now in dire need of water as its soil is beginning to parch and wells are now rock dry.
When cars were invented, car wash has become an essential part of human existence. Who could stand a dirty car, anyway? It must even be considered a crime to let your car roam the streets looking drab and dirty when there are thousands of local car wash shops near you. But, what if the only thing that’s keeping you from washing your car is your concern for the environment? It could be one tough decision to make especially if you take into consideration the possible environmental impact when washing your car, either by your friendly neighborhood car wash shop or even when doing it yourself.
Washing your car at home proved to be a great water-waster, not to mention the chemicals your car soaps may contain are going down the drain and straight to larger bodies of water. One can avoid this possible environmental hazard by:
· Keeping the kids away from car washing activities. While this can be a great family-bonding time for you and your kids, unfortunately, kids are never great with saving principles. Plus, they tend to get carried away when they see water.
· Support eco-friendly car care products. They may be a little expensive than your ordinary supplies but they will surely lessen the environmental impact you are making while washing your car. There are also “waterless” car care products that you might want to check out.
· When working alone, try to wash one portion at a time to minimize your water usage.
